Ripple Effect

RippleEffect

“Memories of our lives, of our
works and our deeds will continue
in others”

Rosa Parks

It ripples like the song you can’t get out of your head. It follows you around throughout the day. You’ll find yourself humming it here and there. Is it the lyrics? The melody? The drum beat? All about the bass? The marketing genius? Whatever it is, there it is again.  Where did it come from?

Ripple effects show up in different ways all the time. One ripple is still effecting me from decades ago.  It started when I took my first yoga class at 18 years old. My teacher was only a few years older than I. She was petite with long straight brown hair. She appeared relaxed, comfortable and confident in her body. I was nervous, self-conscious and tall in mine. I wanted to be like her.

Try as I might, I wasn’t able to look like her, but the lessons she taught stayed with me. The spark she had I’ll never forget. The easy going kindness in what she was teaching. I never dreamed then I’d be teaching yoga 15 years later. I’d never even heard of yoga prior to taking that class. But this teacher started a ripple effect for me. She sparked my interest in a subject that would lead me down a career path. I never saw her again after that class. But this memorable teacher and the subject she introduced me to resonates and reverberates within me to this very day.

What’s rippling within you after 10, 20, 30 + years? What songs are playing in your head? What life experiences are you still listening to? What’s guiding your current thoughts?

Can you discover the ripples effects in your life?
