My Mother, Helena

Helena lives through World War 1 in Poland as a cook for the armies invading her village. She helplessly watches her family perish thru the horrors of war. When the war is over she eventually gets on a boat to the land of dreams, the United States of America and lands in Chicago – right in time for the Great Depression.
