My Mother Helena

World War 1 Poland. Helena lives a modest life with her family tending to their farm until it is invaded by Russian forces who take over their farm and home. Helena survives as the army’s cook. The rest of her family perishes in the barn through starvation. As war eventually ends, Helena embarks on a long journey to the land of opportunity – America. She eventually lands in Chicago right in time for the Great Depression. This is a true story based on the book, “My Mother Helena” by Leona Turlo Budilovsky. (Treatment)
